"The woods are lovely, dark and deep. But I have promises to keep, and miles to go before I sleep."

- Robert Frost

A Community That Lives And Breathes The Spirit Of Volunteerism...

The summer of 2016 brought a severe drought to our region and in the fall of that year, Clay County experienced a rare and unprecedented outbreak of wildfires in the hills and mountains to the east of town. Firefighters from all over the United States as well as Puerto Rico and Canada descended on our little corner of the mountains to help fight the fires in a brave and untiring effort to save property and lives. No lives were lost and no homes were damaged. Folks from all across the county– from schoolchildren to local civic clubs, churches and more joined in the volunteer efforts to support the firefighters. Here’s the firefighters’ “Thank You” to everyone in the community who rallied round to support them during the weeks that they were here in Clay County – what we’re blessed to call “our little corner of the mountains”.
